Our Mission

The idea for Transfiguration Minneapolis emerged in the wake of the May 2020 murder of George Floyd. The ensuing turmoil laid bare the full depths of exhaustion and pain of BIPOC in Minneapolis. The profound concern we heard in the community, especially for the spiritual welfare of social justice organizers and LGBTQ2S youth, struck us as a clarion call summoning the Church to action. At its heart, Transfiguration is a community that provides a spiritual haven for people, who have historically found themselves at the margins of the Church. Rooting our life together in spiritual and liturgical practices that center the BIPOC and LGBTQ2S experience, Transfiguration strives to hold spaces where marginalized populations can find integration and healing from white supremacy and homophobia. Central to this common life is providing spiritual care to local social justice groups in the form of spiritual support, retreats, and protest liturgies. Inviting others from outside Transfiguration to join in our activities, we hope to model for them a process of antiracist transformation they can bring to their own faith communities throughout the diocese and the Church.
